Frederick MD Family Photographer

A beautiful family is something to behold.

This family exuded not only love, but a peacefulness that is hard to come by with two small children. It was easy to capture their essence. There was a gentle calm about them, which is exactly what I needed.

Five minutes before their session I lost vision in my left eye...blurry, stars, wiggle lines...you know if you've had the beginnings of a migraine. This lasted through nearly their entire session. So a mini internal panic attack was going on with me, though I tried not to show it. And they were kind enough to say that they didn't notice. Good thing I really only need my right eye to look through the viewfinder!

Pretty Petal Studio . Fine Art Photographer . Knowledge Dump

Lately I've been contemplating "knowledge dumping." Years ago I read JD Salinger's "Nine Stories" and one story in particular struck me and became my favorite..."Teddy." It makes one wonder about how we would view the "real world" if we weren't told what things are or should be. My contemplation lately is tied directly with photography.

I wonder how we would photograph a portrait or object if we could somehow "dump" the way that we think a portrait or object should be photographed. It's hard to do. It's hard to shake off everything we've seen, admired or been influenced by. And those that can shake it off, well, I think they're the pioneers...the ones that everyone else starts to copy.

This requires a lot of rule breaking, thinking outside the box, criticism by "experts" in the field...and bravery. So I ask you, can you meditate on this idea. Marinate in it for a while. Imagine that you've never seen a newborn photo or a photo of a family portrait. What would it look like? Can you become a pioneer? Can you reinvent the way the world sees a baby or a family? I'd love to see it if you can.

It's something that I can't shake. It's like a whisper in my ear...I need a massive knowledge dump. So I ask the universe for some cool dreams...and especially those lucid ones, so I can begin reinventing the way I view the world.

Frederick MD Child Photographer . Em and Q

I recently had the opportunity to meet and photograph the children of one of my favorite photographers/artist, Linda Plaisted.

Her children are beautiful, kind and exude a magical quality that is quite indescribable but I wouldn't expect anything less. Linda's work is dreamy and ethereal...like a distant memory. It's the kind of photography that stops me in my tracks, it requires a pause to let it all sink in. So to say I was honored to photograph her children is an understatement. Don't they just ooze dreamy fairytaleness!

Frederick MD Baby Photographer . Floral Corsage Headband

I recently went into two great little shops in downtown New Market, MD and found these adorable headband/scarves. Immediately I imagined them tied around the pretty little faces of my baby girl clients. And the first to model them for me...baby Ciara. She was a sport for two, the teal and peach, but not so much the vanilla. Maybe next week when we have a real mini-session planned as she approaches 6 month's old!
